After the latest round of public consultation, which has been revisiting the plans with the local community and political stakeholders since November 2020, development partners Mount Anvil and Peabody have now submitted their planning application for Burridge Gardens. The application relates predominantly to Phase 3, with tenure changes only in Phase 1
This application will enable significant improvements and enhancements to be made to the previously approved scheme for Burridge Gardens, learning lessons from earlier phases and responding to current wants and needs of the local community. The application will allow internal changes to the layouts of the proposed new homes and architectural design changes.
Following this planning application, Phase 3 will deliver 307 new homes (31 affordable), new high-quality commercial space and a new public square off St John’s Hill. This is an additional 59 homes than approved in the 2019 planning permission. Target completion is 2026.
The application will bring forward a number of benefits to the existing and future residents, it will:
• Complete Burridge Gardens
• Increase security to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour
• Provide an increase in new high-quality homes
• Encourage healthy and active lifestyles
• Create jobs through construction and new commercial space
• Increase biodiversity
• Provide safer pedestrian routes and cycleways
• Provide spaces for the local community, such as shops, cafés and local workspace
• Promote social interaction with more spaces and places to meet and socialise outside
• Improve communal amenity and new play space, alongside new public artwork
• Improvements to design in response to policy and the surrounding area
• Improve sustainability of the new buildings
• Increase tree planting, landscaping and greenery.

We’ve started reviewing the plans for Phase 3 and are excited to share our emerging vision with the local community. We want to talk to as many people as possible about our revised plans for Phase 3.
An information booklet has been hand delivered to all residents of St John’s Hill/Burridge Gardens and surrounding residents. The booklet sets out the story so far, the project timeline, what we’ve heard so far, initial design principles for Phase 3, our emerging vision and some early illustrations. The evidence is clear that spending quality time with nature can have powerful benefits for our mental health and wellbeing. Importantly, nature can be found in the most unexpected places, including our cities. Even small contacts with nature can reduce feelings of social isolation and be effective in protecting our mental health and preventing distress.
Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from 10-16 May. This year’s theme is ‘Nature’, and we’re encouraging you to take a moment to notice and appreciate local connections with nature and share the connections you’ve made during this week. We’ve asked ecologist, Morgan Taylor, a Director at Greengage Environmental, to provide some ideas for flora and fauna to look out for in May –you might be surprised by what you notice!

Dear Neighbour
Our April newsletter has now been published.
The newsletter introduces Mount Anvil, who has been selected by Peabody as its joint venture partner for the third and final phase of the St John’s Hill / Burridge Gardens redevelopment. It also includes results from the recent Real Worth Community Survey, which went out to residents, both old and new, of St John’s Hill and Burridge Gardens. Thank you to all those who took part.
We wanted to understand the way people living in and around St John’s Hill/Burridge Gardens feel about themselves and the area that they live and work in. Your feedback will also help to understand the social impact that has been created by the new development, and the potential to improve on this over time as phase 3 comes forward.
To find our more information take a look at our newsletter, which is available to download here.
In November 2020, RealWorth carried out a survey to understand the way you feel about the area you live and work in.
Thank you if you took part in the survey - it’ll make sure Phase 3 echoes the quality of the wider development that you’re pleased with and ensure the third and final phase can be completed and deliver for everyone.
